New York Fashion Week is fully underway, and one collection that has caught our eye is that of our very own ex-Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham. She’s a fashion designer, proper! Last season we saw a collection of perfectly cut, incredibly structured gowns that made whoever wear them look positively…well… statuesque. But we all know that a fashion designer worth their weight in industry gold needs to update, evolve and impress with a new collection – hasn’t she done well? She didn’t stray from her signature body-hugging silhouettes, and quite frankly why should she? – she’s queen of bodycon – but what she DID do is add fluidity and movement. We saw draping and asymmetric neck-lines, looser fabrics (jersey and lame) and a gorgeous collection of colours (redy-orange, gunmetal, blue, nudes and black). Jacquard and a pixilated print bought more interest into some of the colour combinations. It was all still about the waistline; nipped in with ribbon, a belt or a change in fabric, but what came through was the rather successful mix of fluid top halves and structured bottom halves, usually in a pencil-skirt cut. The whole collection was tres chic, we expected no less from VB really. She even gave away what she’ll be wearing at the Oscars – take a look at the first dress above. Isn’t it Beckham-fabulous? We can’t wait to see her walk down the red carpet on March 7th.
