The trench coat has long been a favourite for men. They were hugely popular in the 40s and 50s, and now they have exploded once again on the high street and we’re very excited to hear that Topman have enlisted four great designers to re-create the men’s wardrobe staple; Mihara Yauhiro, Tim Soar, B Blessing and Alister Mackie. To add to this list, Topman Design have also come up with their own take on the jacket. Yasuhiro has designed a full length stone coloured trench, Tim Soar’s version has elasticated cuffs and sleeves and a zip on the back to increase the volume of the coat, B Blessing have given their trench zips instead of buttons and the lining incorporates a personal poem written throughout, Mackie’s take comes in navy blue with original paisley lining and Topman Design have created a black and grey geometric patterend coat with a funnel neck and bright blue lining. Gordon Richardson, Topman Design director, said that: “The designs all have a timeless quality to them whilst subtly reflecting each designers personality and handwriting. The only difficult thing about the range will be making the decision of which one to buy.” He’s right. We’ve had an exclusive look at all the coats, and each one is FAB! We have our favourites, but the consensus in the HF office is actually the Topman Design version – it shows individuality and we absolutely love the colour choices with the clashing blue lining. The coats are priced between £80 and £100 and you can pick one up from the (much improved) Oxford Circus store, shops in New York (if you’re lucky enough to live there) or online at www.topman.com.
