Tom Ford at NYFW
This week in NYC, the legendary designer Tom Ford released his ‘fall 2016’ ready-to-wear collection. The catwalk took place in the former Four Seasons with A -listers attending including Tom Hanks, Julianne Moore and Naomi Campbell to name a few. This year Ford took the risk of presenting an in season collection meaning that as of now, the clothing and looks which appeared on the catwalk are available to purchase. Vogue described the method to exploit ‘the immediacy of desire’ as radical but nevertheless Ford has taken that leap and become the first American designer to have done so (several others will follow suit this week).
The collection itself had Tom Ford’s fingerprints all over it, the use of both casual and evening looks for both genders made the show, and it’s fashions, accessible and wearable. Signature design features included the use of laying belts at a nipped in waist and the use of classic materials such as tweed and leather gave the collection a traditional look.
However, classic Tom Ford themes did sneak in the evening wear ranges. The use of sequins zigzagged across the lower part of the dresses revisited Ford’s rock chick days but the cut and silhouette of the gowns ensured all watching, that Ford’s designs and looks have matured and grown with him.
The menswear was as bold and bright as usual, with several suit jackets sporting exuberant patterns.
