Paris Fashion Week: Trend report
The last city of the ‘big four’ fashion weeks showcased designers such as Valentino, Balenciaga and Celine. It was a week of high luxury fashion, Paris as a fashion capital is known for the standard of the couture items presented by designers. So what did this particular SS17 fashion week teach us about what trends to buy into?
This current season we have seen trends such as ‘Granny’s attic’ making us revisit all those outfits we previously laughed at. It seems the fashion world has still not listened to Miranda Priestly’s ‘ Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking’ but have made some progress and revisited a big, bold and garish version for SS17.
Time to stand up with a slogan
This SS17 fashion week was coated in feminism and women’s empowerment. Slogan t-shirts definitely took the full reign such as Christian Dior’s ‘We should all be feminists’ white tee – made glam by being worn with a sheer black and silver maxi skirt.
Taking trench to a new level
In the Balmain show, the traditional trench coat was reinvented in materials such as leathers and plastics. This item has a snakeskin effect completely changing the original trench coat into something modern and fashion forward.
Big shoulders and bold make up. Think New Romantics. Think leather, metallics and layering… how wrong can it possibly go? Kenzo had a strong 80’s theme running throughout the collection which featured metallic bralettes worn over shirts.
