Paris Fashion Week: Stella McCartney
Sustainable fashion designer Stella McCartney showcased her SS18 collection this week at Paris Fashion Week. Set to the backdrop of the Palais Garnier Opera House, complete with giant chandeliers, gave a chic Parisian setting for the British designer.
A fusion of athleisure and glamour, this 80s influenced collection featured double denim, over sized utility suits and exaggerated shoulders. Colours of acid green paired with shocking pink gave the collection a strong sense of fun. McCartney reinvented the idea of evening wear by pairing loose, long lined t-shirts with taffeta red and pink floor length skirts. It was a collection strong with day to night staples, everything that McCartney would wear herself.
McCartney, known for her sustainable approach to high end design, has a mission to ensure that clothes made from cruelty free materials should be accepted as part of Paris Fashion Week, rather than focused at only the eco based market. McCartney’s show invites arrived attached to a roll of compostable plastic bin bags from TIPA in an attempt to create a debate about waste in the fashion industry, something McCartney is always trying to reduce.
