Graduate Fashion Week 2017
Last week, London showcased the annual ‘Graduate Fashion Week’ at The Truman Brewery, Spitalfields. Founded in 1991, the charity organisation created this event as a platform for emerging designers and talented graduates to get their work acknowledged and promoted. Along with several awards up for grabs, live talks and workshops – the 40 universities taking part each have their own stall and some catwalk shows – attracting 30,000 guests each year.
Awards this year went to a variety of educational institutions, with Halina North winning the Christoper Bailey Gold Award for her sustainable, contemporary and creative collection. This award is marked on catwalk impact, creativity and craftmanship. Halina North is from the Edinburgh College of Art.
Other awards included the M&S Womenwear award won by another Edinburgh College of Art graduate – Irene D’Antonio.
The Debenhams Menswear Award went to Daniel Rynne from Arts University Bournemouth.
