Dior Cruise Collection

Cruise collections, also referred to as resort collections, are another fashion line released by a brand in between the two main SS and AW fashion weeks. Cruise collections were initially designed for widely traveled customers and tend to offer garments suitable for a warm weathered holiday. Brands such as Dior, Dolce and Gabbana and Louis Vuitton are prominent cruise collection creators. This year, Dior showcased their collection in Calabasas, a suburb in LA home to famous residents such as the Kardashians. The show mimicked a Hollywood movie set, complete with trailers, tents and hot air balloons sporting the collection title –  ‘Dior Sauvage’.

The collection itself was based on ‘mankind and its relationship to nature, as well as the invention of art‘, returning to Christian Dior’s 1951 depiction of rock paintings and ‘wild and ancient femininity‘. The collection was created by Maria Grazia Chirui, the artistic director of the womenswear collections at Dior and this is her first cruise collection for the house. The garments themselves reflected directly on the Californian desert backdrop to the show with rich desert colours of reds, yellows and browns. Feathers, fur, shearling and fringes added a western and natural element.
