Designer Focus : Mary Katrantzou wins the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund.
Women’s fashion designer Mary Katrantzou has won the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund 2015 for her use of colour and innovation in both fashion and textile design. This London based designer, originally from Athens, studied Textile Design for her BA at Central Saint Martins followed by a MA in Fashion Design at the same college. She launched her own label in 2008 and since then has climbed steadily to the forefront of the fashion world.
Katrantzou has followed in the footsteps of past winners such as Peter Pilotto and Erdem to win this famous award. The £200,000 grant and 12 month intensive mentoring programme will help Katrantzou to build up her brand and the infrastructure of her label even further.
Caroline Rush, the chief executive of the BFC, describes Katrantzou as a ‘tireless worker’, ‘an abundance of creativity’ and one of the ‘world’s most talked-about designers’ – hence why she truly deserves this award.
We love her use of pattern, colour and texture – expect to see similar themes from her AW’15 throughout the high street fashion stores this autumn. Why not show this designer some support by purchasing an item from her ready to wear shop?
How about this gorgeous dress?
